Current projects
Maltby Colliery - UK
A Sentrum Methane Recovery Monitoring System has been installed and commissioned for trial at the Inlet House at Maltby Colliery - an operational coal mine. The system has been fitted onto the mine's existing technology as part of a safety and gas-to-energy project, with the recovered methane being
utilised to power generator sets.
The Sentrum System has replaced out of date monitoring equipment as part of a safety upgrade.
As part of the trial, a gas sample has been taken on a weekly basis over an 11-week period to prove the accuracy of the Sentrum system. The readings taken between 17th March and 19th May 2010 show the system to display accurate readings to ±2.5% - even with the presence of non-methane higher hydrocarbons. The gas sample is taken from the suction side (supply) of the main extraction pumps and monitored gas is returned to the gas transport pipe.
Due to the success of the trial, it has been agreed that 1 Sentrum System will be installed outbye at K Junction and 1 system inbye at 8’s tailgate at Maltby Colliery to monitor the methane being extracted from the coal seam.
